Getting Started with Kleanr™
Learn how to use the three-panel editor, vectorize artwork with real-time preview, remove backgrounds with ML, reduce colors with Pantone matching, and build Logo Walls.
What is Kleanr™?
Kleanr™ is the 9th product in the Kontrol™™ ecosystem — a standalone image cleanup and vectorization tool purpose-built for screen printers, sign shops, and anyone who works with logos and artwork. It features a professional three-panel editor (Settings | Preview | Output), real-time vectorization that runs entirely in your browser, ML-powered background removal, a color toolkit with Pantone matching, and a Logo Wall builder. Kleanr™ is included free with all active Kontrol™™ subscriptions. Standalone plans range from Free to Studio ($69/mo).
The three-panel editor
Kleanr™ uses a three-panel layout designed for professional artwork preparation: • Settings panel (left): all controls for vectorization, background removal, and color reduction • Preview canvas (center): real-time preview that updates as you adjust settings — no waiting for server processing • Output panel (right): export options, color palette, and file details The preview updates instantly as you move sliders. Use the before/after split view to compare your original image side-by-side with the processed result.
How to vectorize artwork
Upload any raster image (PNG, JPG, TIFF, BMP) and Kleanr™ traces it into clean vector paths. The vectorization engine runs entirely in your browser — your files never leave your machine during preview.
- 1Click "New Project" and upload your image (or drag-and-drop onto the canvas).
- 2Kleanr™ automatically detects the optimal color count and generates vector paths in real time.
- 3Adjust the detail slider to control how closely vectors follow the original pixels — lower for smoother curves, higher for pixel-perfect tracing.
- 4Use the before/after split view to compare the original and vectorized result side by side.
- 5Export as SVG, EPS, or PDF when you are satisfied.
For best results, start with the highest resolution source image you have. You can also drag-and-drop a new image onto the canvas mid-edit to replace the current one without losing your settings.
Background removal
Kleanr™ offers two background removal methods: • Color dropper: click on a background color to remove it and all similar pixels. Adjust tolerance for precision. • ML-powered removal: uses machine learning to intelligently separate the subject from the background — handles hair, transparency, complex edges, gradients, and shadows.
- 1Open your image in Kleanr™.
- 2Click the "Remove Background" tool in the settings panel.
- 3Choose your method: use the color dropper for solid backgrounds, or ML removal for photos.
- 4Adjust the tolerance slider if using the dropper. For ML removal, the result is automatic.
- 5Click Apply to finalize. The preview updates in real time.
Color toolkit
Screen printing requires a limited number of ink colors. Kleanr™ gives you powerful tools to manage your palette: • Smart auto-detection: Kleanr™ suggests the optimal number of colors based on your artwork. • Color info panel: tap any color to see hex, RGB, CMYK values and the closest Pantone match. • Color merge: drag one color onto another to combine them. The preview updates instantly. • Color delete: remove unwanted colors from the palette. • Three reduction modes: Monotone, Spot Color (2‒8 colors), and Screen-Print-Ready. Every change supports undo/redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) so you can experiment freely.
Custom presets
If you frequently process similar types of artwork (e.g., one-color logos, multi-color event graphics), save your settings as a custom preset. Presets store all your vectorization, color, and background removal settings so you can apply them to future projects with one click. To save a preset: adjust your settings, click the Presets menu, and choose "Save Current Settings." To load: select a saved preset from the list.
Create presets for your most common job types — one for single-color logos, one for multi-color designs, one for photo-based artwork. It saves time on repeat jobs.
Send to Job
When your artwork is cleaned up and ready, click "Send to Job" to attach the finished file and extracted color palette directly to any Kontrol™™ job. The colors are mapped to your ink library so your production team knows exactly which inks to pull. This bridges the gap between art preparation and production — no downloading, re-uploading, or manually entering color info.
AI art detection
Kleanr™ includes heuristic-based AI art detection that analyzes frequency patterns, texture consistency, color distribution, and symmetry to estimate whether an image was generated by AI. This helps shops flag potential copyright concerns before committing to production. The detection score is shown as a percentage with a confidence rating (Low, Medium, High). It is a heuristic guide, not a legal determination.
AI art detection is advisory only. It cannot guarantee whether an image is AI-generated or human-created. Always verify usage rights with your customer.
Export options
Kleanr™ supports multiple export formats depending on the tool: • Vectorization: SVG, EPS, PDF • Background removal: PNG (transparent), TIFF • Color reduction: PNG, SVG (vector mode), TIFF • Logo Wall: SVG, PNG All exports maintain the original image dimensions. Watermarks are applied in the free tier and demo environment.
