DTF transfers peeling after the first wash — cure or press?

If your DTF prints look perfect but peel or crack after a wash or two, it's almost always one of two stages: the powder cure, or the final press. Here's how I chase it down.

Powder cure (on the film, before you press):

• Under-cured powder = weak adhesive = it peels. The powder should fully melt and go glossy/gel-like, not stay powdery or matte.
• Over-cured = brittle film that cracks.
• Follow your powder's temp/time spec exactly, whether you're curing in an oven or with a press hover. This stage is where most peel problems are born.

Final press (film to garment):

1. Temperature to the film spec (commonly ~300–320°F, but follow yours).
2. Time — full dwell, don't rush the lift.
3. Pressure — firm and even. Soft/uneven pressure is the #1 cause of "it washed off."
4. Peel hot or cold as the film specifies — guessing here ruins good prints.
5. Post-press (a second press through parchment after peeling) noticeably improves durability and wash resistance.

Then wash-test before you ship. One test garment through a real wash/dry cycle tells you more than any spec sheet. Post a photo of the peel edge on the thread if you want a second opinion — the failure pattern usually points right at the stage.
