Connecting IMAP Email
Connect any email provider (Yahoo, Zoho, GoDaddy, custom domains) using IMAP credentials.
When to use IMAP
If your shop email is not Gmail or Microsoft 365, you can connect it using IMAP. This works with Yahoo Mail, Zoho Mail, GoDaddy email, cPanel-hosted email, and any other provider that supports IMAP access.
Finding your IMAP settings
You will need four pieces of information from your email provider: the IMAP server address, port number, your email address, and your password (or an app-specific password). Most providers list these in their help documentation under "IMAP settings" or "Email client setup".
Common IMAP servers: imap.mail.yahoo.com (port 993), imap.zoho.com (port 993), imap.gmail.com (port 993). Your host's support page will have the exact values.
How to connect
- 1Go to Settings → Integrations → Email Provider
- 2Select "IMAP (Other Provider)" from the provider dropdown
- 3Enter your IMAP server address (e.g., imap.zoho.com)
- 4Enter the port number (usually 993 for SSL)
- 5Enter your full email address and password
- 6Click "Test Connection" to verify the settings are correct
- 7If the test passes, click "Save" — your inbox is now connected
Some providers require you to generate an "app password" instead of using your regular login password. If the connection test fails, check your provider's documentation for app-specific passwords.
Security notes
Kontrol™ stores your IMAP credentials encrypted at rest. The connection uses SSL/TLS encryption in transit. We strongly recommend using an app-specific password rather than your main account password when your provider supports it.
Troubleshooting
- 1Connection test fails: Verify the server address and port. Try port 993 (SSL) or 143 (STARTTLS).
- 2Authentication error: Make sure you are using an app password if your provider requires one (Yahoo and Zoho both do).
- 3Emails not appearing: Check that IMAP access is enabled in your email provider's settings — some providers disable it by default.
- 4Timeout errors: Your email provider may be rate-limiting connections. Wait a few minutes and try again.
